Zentoryu developed the Bench Sumo Quality Award.
This prize will be awarded annually after the November (Kyushu) Bench Basho, and will based on the points accumulated throughout the 6 Bench Basho during any year, based on the scoring as shown below:-
Only sekitori players (those in Juryo and Makunouchi) are able to gain points for this prize.
Bench Sumo Quality Award
----------------------------------- Points would be awarded as follows: ----------------------------------- 14 for defeating a Yokozuna 12 for defeating a Ozeki 10 for defeating a Sekiwake 9 for defeating a Komusubi 7 for defeating a Maegashira ranked 1-4 6 for defeating a Maegashira ranked 5-8 5 for defeating a Maegashira ranked 9-13 4 for defeating a Maegashira ranked 14-17 3 for defeating a Juryo rikishi ranked 1-4 2 for defeating a Juryo rikishi ranked 4-8 1 for defeating a Juryo rikishi ranked 9-14 ---------------------------------- Bonus Points for the following: -------------------------------- 7 for winning the Makunouchi Yusho 5 for Makunouchi Jun-Yusho 4 for winning the Juryo Yusho 2 for going Kachi-Koshi (getting at least 8 wins in a Basho) 1 for every win over 8 -2 for going Make-Koshi (getting less than 8 wins in a Basho) -1 for every loss over 8 4 for any Makunouchi special prize won (Technique / Fighting Spirit / Outstanding Performance prizes)
In the case of a tie, all the tied Bench Rikishi will get the award.
